Government’s Decision To Tax Ghanaians For The Usage Of Free Water And Electricity Makes Some Of Us Who Championed The Course Look Mindless – Price David Osei
It is barely five days now when the 2021 budget was presented to Ghanaians on the floor of parliament house by Minister of parliament affairs honorable Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who also doubles as majority leader in parliament.
He explained the new taxes introduced by government to generate revenue to pay for the losses incurred during the Covid-19 pandemic due to the free water and electricity provided by government to Ghanaians.
Ever since, a lot of people have criticized the decision to let Ghanaians pay for the debts.
A pro – NPP supporter and actor, Prince David Osei has added his voice to the many who have blamed the government to tax Ghanaians. During the 2020 election campaign, the free water and electricity was one of the things that the NPP government used to solicit for votes.
Few months after the elections, this same NPP who claim they gave Ghanaians free water has made a u-turn, asking Ghanaians to pay back the money through some newly introduced taxes.
Prince David Osei sees this decision by the government not to be fair. In his Twitter handle, he remarked that if this happens, it makes some of them who championed the campaign with the free water message look like fools.
“ If we campaigned for #4More4Nana to do more on the promise of free water & electricity during the pandemic and we turn around to tax the people, then it makes some of us who championed the course look Mindless! “ he wrote.
He went further to say that, he believe the president can look for alternative way to recuperate the money lost other than citizens paying for the free usage of water and electricity he (the president) affectionately offered them.
