International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction: Offinso North District NADMO plant teak trees

The Office of the National Disaster Management Organization, Offinso North, as part of commemorating the International Day for Disaster Reduction which falls on October 13, 2020, embarked on a teak tree planting exercise in selected basic schools at Akomadan and Afrancho all located in the district.

Speaking in an interview with Peace News correspondent Nana Kwadwo Adu of Asta Fm, Hon. Mammoah Elijah the Offinso North district NADMO Director said the exercise is directed towards the mitigation of the effects of climate change and variation.

He opined that this is particularly important because climate change is real in Ghana more especially Offinso North which is under the transition vegetation zone with ravaging effects.

For his part, Mr. Daniel Boadi Ayim the Administrator of the Offinso North district NADMO used the occasion to encourage Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of tree planting to ensure environmental sustainability, adding that the catastrophic impact of continues forest degradation will not be contained if not checked immediately.
