Properties worth over a million Ghana cedis destroyed by flood in some communities near Ashaiman
Many house holds in Kubekro No.2, Dam-site and Katamanso, all communities in the Kpone Katamanso District of the Greater Accra Region, were displaced by floods caused by excessive water spillage from an irrigation dam in the district.
Over a million Ghana cedis worth of properties were also destroyed in last night’s incident.
Wednesday’s flooding which was experienced by residents in Dam-site, Kuberkro No2, Atta Deka and all communities in the Kpone Katamanso District, was reportedly caused by an overflow of water from the Apolonia irrigation dam.
Report shows Monday’s rains, coupled with that of Wedesday’s heavy downpour in the communities contributed to the irrigation dam overflowing it banks.
Over a million Ghana cedis worth of properties were destroyed by the flood, leaving some residents homeless.
Residential and commercial properties were not spared by the flood, with the affected persons not being able to salvage any of their properties.
Mr.Manu who is also a victim said the assembly is not doing anything to help the community,we have contributed as households to use for the construction of the Drainage to carry the water when there is a heavy rain . I have stayed here about seven years now and have not experienced this before as today. He added.
