It was just recently Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful who is the Minister for Communication and Digitalization announced that the deadline for the SIM card re-registration has been protracted. In congruence with that, she added that the date for the extension is September 30, 2022.

The government appointee said she “reluctantly” extended the exercise which was scheduled to windup on July 31, 2022 when addressing the media on Sunday. The Minister said the extension had become necessary owing to the challenges such as delays in the rollout of a self-serving registration app, as well as delays in the procurement of Ghana cards which is obligatory document for the registration. But the boss of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, has said the not all members of the citizenry can have the Ghana card by September 30, 2022 as earlier mentioned by the Minister of Communication and Digitalization.

When speaking to TV3 he said, “We just have to put it in context, the expectation is not fair that NIA can finish giving every Ghanaian who desires to have a card by the September 30, 2022. It is not possible to do that, but we will expand the opportunities to those who are desirous of getting it before that deadline to do. We cannot guarantee that everyone will have it, but we can guarantee that we put our best foot forward in order to serve the people as a responsible state institution.”
